CATALYST AND METHOD FOR THE CATALYTIC OXIDATIVE DEHYDROGENATION OF ALKYL AROMATICS AND PARAFFINS

Described is a method for the catalytic oxidative dehydrogenation of alkyl aromatics or paraffin hydrocarbons to the corresponding alkenyl aromatics or olefins, respectively, by means of a redox catalyst (oxygen carrier). In a first step, the alkyl aromatic or paraffin (educt) is dehydrogenated, in the absence of molecular oxygen, by a solid catalyst consisting of reducible magnesium vanadate(V) which may or may not be on a carrier, the catalyst being reduced in the process, and in a second step the reduced catalyst is re-oxidized with an oxidizing agent, the two steps being carried out in alternation at separate times or in separate locations.
