The invention concerns an arc melting and casting device (10) having a housing which comprises a melting chamber (14) and a casting chamber (16). The melting chamber (14) is disposed above the casting chamber (16) and is connected thereto via a passage (20). The melting chamber (14) and the casting chamber (16) can be closed in a gastight manner. In the melting chamber (14) a first electrode is connected to a crucible (34) and a second electrode (42) terminates above the crucible in the gas volume of the melting chamber (14). According to the invention, in order to attain a compact construction and uniform melting of the material, the second electrode (42) is supported such that it can be driven so that the end (44) of said electrode, which end is opposite the crucible (34), can perform circular movements.
