The printing plate mfr. uses a light source (1) providing a beam (3) which is focussed onto a photosensitive layer applied to the printing plate blank, in accordance with the required printing pattern. At least a given section of the beam is linearly polarised, an electrooptical modulator (8) within this section used for rotating the beam oscillation plane, in dependence on received printing pattern data, with an analyser positioned in the beam path after the modulator.
