PURPOSE:To prevent the drying, thickening and solidification of ink, to discharge bubbles in a nozzle and to inject ink drops stably at all times by connecting the intake section of an air pump to a cap and sucking out ink by pump operation from the nose of the nozzle of a head during capping. CONSTITUTION:When a carriage 28 is positioned at the position for standby of a head, a sealing rubber 20 at the nose of a cap 21 is engaged with a head housing 18, and an ink discharge opening 19 is covered with the cap. An output port 13 is closed at the same time, and the communication of the air chamber 31 of the head housing 18 and an air pump 1 is interrupted. The air pump 1 is operated, air in the air chamber 31 of the head housing 18 is sucked, and the air chamber is decompressed. Consequently, ink is sucked out of the nose nozzle of a head 30, and thickening ink and bubbles are discharged from the head 30. Accordingly, a wetting effect near the nose nozzle is improved, and the drying, thickening and solidification of ink can be inhibited. When the head is used, on the other hand, the cap 21 opens the ink discharge opening 19, and ink can be injected normally. |
