PURPOSE:To obtain the subject lightweight composite excellent in mechanical strength, heat resistance, corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity and oxidation resistance, by impregnating pulp and/or paper with a resol-type phenolic resin containing at least one kind selected from silicon oxides, metal oxides and silicates followed by thermosetting and then baking at reduced pressures or in a nonoxidative atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A resol type phenolic resin is obtained by reaction between a phenolic compound and formaldehyde. The amount of the resin to be impregnated is preferably 30-200 Wt.% Of pulp etc. Silicon oxide etc., to be contained in the phenolic resin, which is not limited to a high-purity one(s), may also be an inexpensive industrial chemical or natural material; its amount to be used is preferably 0.1-30 wt.% of the phenolic resin. For the production of this composite, paper is immersed in a 30-80wt.% solution of the phenolic resin, and the resultant paper is heated and dried, and made into a required shape or laminated, and furthermore, subjected to thermosetting (under pressure) or laminating thermosetting under pressure. |
