In the process for damping vibrations and rotation of a load element 15, as well as for adjusting the latter in the horizontal direction and direction of rotation, a machine beam 18 is used which is placed in the hoisting crane 14 and is movable in one of the directions of travel X,X',Z,Z' of the hoisting crane and in which three handling mechanisms 101,102,103 are placed, two of which are provided with double cable drums 12,13 from which auxiliary cables 1.4 run out and continue via the load element to a drum section integrated in the bearing cable drums. The circumferences of the pulley grooves around the drum section are various in length and consequently always keep the auxiliary cable suitably tensioned. <IMAGE>
