PURPOSE:To obtain a multi-component-based material containing boron nitride, capable of providing a sintered compact without having any expansion, distortion and cracking at a low cost by heating a mixed powder containing a boride and an oxide under a nitriding atmosphere and then specifically treating the mixed powder to form a boron nitride. CONSTITUTION:This method for producing a material containing boron nitride comprises heating a mixed powder containing a boride (e.g. CaB6), preferably the boride of one or more elements belonging to groups II-VI of the periodic table and an oxide (e.g. ZrO2), preferably the oxide of one or more elements belonging to groups II-VI of the periodic table, under a nitriding atmosphere, reducing a part or all of the oxides with the elements bound to B in the boride, converting the resultant oxides into one or more compounds of an oxide having less bound oxygen, an oxynitride, a nitride, a carbide and a boride and simultaneously forming the boron nitride. |
