The ramp has a platform (10) which is pivoted and adjustable for height, mounted on a fixed support and equipped with a forward edge (10) which can be extended or retracted from the end of the loading/unloading bay. The movable edge (10) is connected to the body of the platform by means of parallel interlocking teeth (8,11) on the edge and the platform. The platform and its extending edge can be made from metal, esp. a lightweight alloy for the teeth and a more wear resistant metal for the platform surface and the edge, or they can be of a reinforced plastics, e.g, an epoxy resin with glass, carbon or Kevlar (RTM) fibres.
