Compsn. for retaining skin colour after tanning is in the form of a capsule to be ingested, a powder to be reconstituted as a drink, or a sweet to be chewed. The compsn. contains (a) a carotenoid and (b) a tocopherol, in a physiologically-acceptable medium. Pref. dose of carotenoid is 40-80 mg/day and of tocopherol is 20-120 mg/day. The carotenoid is alpha-, beta-, gamma- or delta-carotene. The tocopherol is vitamin E, beta-, gamma-, delta-, epsilon-, zeta1-, zeta2- or epsilon -tocopherol or alpha-tocopherol succinate. Medium is a vegetable oil, soya lecithin, starch and/or sugar, opt. contg. a natural fruit extract. Compsn. may have gelatine, glycerol or sugar as coating agent.
