After the fuel assembly end cap has been removed, a holding plate (5), with openings (49) arranged to match the guide tubes, is positioned over the ends of the guide tubes. Protective end pieces (48) are then placed inside the ends of the guide tubes (15) and the holding plate (50) then removed. After work on the fuel pins, the assembly end cap is replaced, the protective end pieces (48) are removed and the assembly end cap is fixed using blockage sleeves.
