The window consists of a fixed frame surround (2) with two uprights and two cross-members, and at least one opening frame (1) connected to the fixed surround by hinges. The hinged upright of the opening frame has a lengthwise rib (8) which presses against an external thrust face (9) of the fixed surround when the window is closed so that it can receive inward thrust forces and prevent any buckling of the upright due to wind. The outer thrust face of the window fixed surround upright is formed by the outer surface of a lengthwise rib (12), while the rib on the opening frame is an attachment which is joined to the opening frame upright by fixings (36). The opening frame upright also has a channel (15) to receive a seal (11) which presses against the inner face of the surround's lengthwise rib.
