PURPOSE:To express clearly characters and graphics in an image in the image forming device when dots of the image are interleaved to save consumption of a development agent such as toner and ink. CONSTITUTION:Bit map data are read from a page frame buffer 23 and sets of 3-picture element bits are expanded around a picture element of interest in the vertical direction and the horizontal direction in a shift register array 57. A vertical edge detection circuit 59 and a horizontal edge detection circuit 61 detect whether or not the noted picture element is located in an edge of a pattern based on the sets of the bits. A dot saving pattern generating circuit 67 conducts inter-dot interleave processing with respect to bits of the picture element of interest. An edge detection signal from the edge detection circuits 59, 61 and the bit of the picture element of interest subjected to dot interleave processing from the dot saving pattern generating circuit 67 are ORed by an OR gate 65. The OR signal represents bit map data where a pattern edge of the original bit map data is left without processing and the internal areas of the pattern are subject to dot interleaving and printing is executed by using the OR signal. |
