摘要 PURPOSE:To improve a retrieval range and to eliminate malfunction by detecting a block motion vector inside an area where it is judged that movement is large, that is a sub area, allocating a large vector retrieval range and inversely setting a narrow retrieval range to the area where the movement is small at the time of detecting a motion vector. CONSTITUTION:A motion vector detection circuit 10 is constituted of processing and reference pictures. The detected motion vectors for respective blocks are stored in a buffer 12 for the motion vector, the motion vector of one frame before inside the buffer 12 is referred to and the motion vector retrieval ranges for the respective sub areas are set by using a retrieval range control part 14. In order to determine the representative value of the vector, since pictures are timewisely continuous in the case of moving pictures and it is considered that the area where the movement of patterns is large and the area where it is small are present at the same position, the motion vectors of the pictures detected in the circuit 10 are stored in the buffer 12, the vectors of the respective blocks stored in the buffer 12 are referred to in the control part 14 and the vector of the sub area is turned to the representative value.
