PURPOSE:To accurately recognize a reproducing speed, to eliminate misoperation and to set a reproducing speed according to a content to be recorded by displaying a reproducing speed when the reproducing speed of a magnetic tape is changed. CONSTITUTION:When the reproducing speed of a magnetic tape is changed by means of an operation parts 4, a speed setting circuit 5 sets the reproducing speed thereof to a value specified by a command therefrom and at the same time transmits a condition for setting this to a reproducing speed control parts 6. Upon receiving this setting condition, the control part 6 outputs a command for driving the magnetic tape according to the set speed to a drive mechanism and the like and at the same time commands the set sending speed of the magnetic tape to a display control circuit 7. The circuit 7 outputs a command to a display part 8 so as to display in numerical figures how many times the current magnetic tape sending speed is as a normal speed.
