PURPOSE:To make possible land/group recording and stable recording/ reproduction for densifying an optical disk by providing a groove with a prescribed width in a data area and a servo area at the starting and the terminal ends of the data area. CONSTITUTION:In a sample servo type optical disk, a groove having about a half width of a track pitch is provided lengthwise in a data area and a servo area at the starting end and the terminal end of the data area and the condition of thermal diffusion in a boundary region is brought into close to a characteristic on the middle of the data area. In the servo area prior to the starting end of the data area, by irradiating a recording layer with a light pulse for preheating and heating it, a thermal condition at the starting end of the data area is made to be the same as that of a part of the data area and recording is stabilized. A servo area succeeding the rear end of the data area is irradiated with a laser pulse for post-heating and the orientation of magnetization of the recording layer in the boundary region is arranged in a fixed direction by impressing magnetic field in the fixed direction on the recording layer during pre-heating and post-heating. |
