PURPOSE:To provide a lithium secondary battery with high discharge capacity and long cycle life, in which initial discharge capacity is higher than that of the traditional battery and high discharge efficiency near 100% is maintained even after 500th cycle. CONSTITUTION:A carbonaceous negative electrode material for a lithium secondary battery is made of carbonaceous meso-phase carbide powder whose mosaic texture structure is more than 50 vol.%. This carbide powder is formed with a binder to manufacture a negative electrode for the lithium secondary battery, and the negative electrode is combined with a positive electrode and a nonaqueous electrolyte containing a lithium compound to constitute the lithium secondary battery. The carbonaceous meso-phase with mosaic texture structure is obtained by heat treating pitch under existence of a specified amount or more of nitric acid. |
