In the alkaline, oxidative degradation of an ose, a ulose, their polymers or their mixt., in aq. soln., and in presence of a redox couple formed by a mixt. of AMS and H2O2, the oxidising gas is air, which is mixed and fed into the reaction mixt. with stirring at a rate such that satn. of the mixt. with dissolved O2 leads to a pink colouration of the reaction medium.
