<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a noncontact field sensor having no threshold field by providing a hybrid oriented liquid crystal, a glass, a conductive transparent electrode, and a reflection film. CONSTITUTION:Upon application of a field, the orientation at a part of liquid crystal molecule 5 inclines further by an amount corresponding to another part. The inclination alpha is represented as follows; alpha=$DELTAepsilonE<2>/2.(d/pi)<2>.sin(pi.Z/d), where (d) is the thickness of the liquid crystal 2a, E is the field, and Z-axis represents the thickness direction of the liquid crystal 2a. The inclination alphais proportional to the square of the field E and the threshold field is not present. When a hybrid oriented liquid crystal 2a is employed as a field detection means, a noncontact field sensor having no threshold field can be realized. In the formula, DELTAepsilon represents the difference of dielectric constant between normal light and abnormal light.</p> |
