PURPOSE:To provide a single mode optical fiber capable of increasing a zero dispersion length, increasing the MFD without increasing bending loss and lowering a nonlinear effect. CONSTITUTION:Increasing of the MFD without increasing the bending loss is made possible by increasing the specific refractive index difference DELTAn1 of an inner core and decreasing 2a/2b. The bending loss is suppressed to a substantially negligible level even if the zero dispersion wavelength is increased in the profile. More specifically, the diameter of the inner core is 2a and the max. refractive index is n1 and the single mode optical fiber having an outer core having the diameter 2b and the refractive index n2 lower than the refractive index of the core on the outer side of the core and further, having a clad part of the refractive index n0 on the outer side thereof is formed to DELTAn1<=0.7%, 0.06<=DELTAn2/DELTAn1<=0.16, 0.15<=2a/2b<=0.3 where DELTAn1=(n1<2>-n0<2>)/n1<2>, DELTAn2=(n2<2>-n0<2>)/n2<2>. |
