Catheter adapter sleeve (19) has one end for attaching to the catheter (16) and the other (20) having an inner cone, esp. a Luer cone, for connecting to a coupling (9) for a syringe unit (11). The sleeve is of virtually the same length as the catheter with an inner dia. of 3 mm and an outer dia. of 5 mm, and is made from a plastic material e.g. polystyrene, polypropylene, polyurethane or ABS.
