A homogeneous four-component composition useful in an aerosol dispensing system is provided, comprising: a) alcohol selected from the group consisting of alcohols containing 2 or 3 carbon atoms and mixtures thereof from about 5-50 % by weight and dimethyl ether from about 5-50 % by weight wherein said alcohol and dimethyl ether together comprise no greater than about 55 % by weight of the composition; b) about 10-45 % by weight of a fluorocarbon material such as difluoroethane and 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane; and c) water from about 1-50 % by weight. Total propellant is 15-95 % by weight. The composition allows for easy and fine atomization using high levels of propellant, and quick drying time where needed. The composition solubilizes all manner of active ingredients which may be present up to about 15 % by weight or more, varying with the type of product desired. The composition is useful in hairsprays, disinfectants, deodorants and air fresheners.
