Purificn. of unbranched beta -cyclodextrin (I) comprises (1) forming a first ppte. and first liq. from a starting soln. by crystallisation; (2) recovering the ppte. and dissolving it in water to form a second soln., (3) crystallisation of the resulting soln. to give a second ppte. and second liq.; (4) recovering the second ppte. (5) opt. dissolving the second ppte. and obtaining a third ppte. as before; and (6) isolating (I) from the final ppte.
