The toy train comprises a main body provided with a reversible motor, a driving mechanism and an operating mechanism. The driving mechanism turns the main body in a first direction, when the motor rotates in one direction, and in a second direction, when the motor rotates in the opposite direction. The operating mechanism activates the driving mechanism. A number of cars may be coupled to each other, and to the main body of the toy train, via a coupling device which is operatively connected adjacent of the cars and adapted for horizontal movement, to allow the cars to meander along the surface along which they are travelling. A remote controller may be used to activate the operating mechanism.
