In both positions (18), the valve closure spring (16) engages on the transmission element via the spring plate arrangement, which is displaceable relative to the gas exchange valve (5). This maintains the transmission element in constant contact with the camshaft (3). The valve shaft (9) has a section (11) of reduced diameter, which extends in longitudinal direction of the gas exchange valve. The valve spring arrangement is held with small play on this shaft section. The transmission element has a wall (21), acting on the valve spring arrangement. The wall has an aperture (22) with a diameter, which is larger than that of the valve shaft end (9').
