The method for optical recording and playback uses a stationary recording medium (20) on a mounting unit (50). The recording medium (20) consists of the inner surface of a spherical body with a rotatable optical head (40) positioned at its centre of curvature. A light beam is emitted by the optical head, reflected from the recording medium surface and read by the optical head. The optical head is mounted on two orthogonal axes, with independent motor drives.
