The outer conductor (3) of a coaxial cable comprises an electroconductive lacquer layer. The lacquer may comprise Ag, Cu, Ni or soot in a thermoplastic resin e.g. polyester, polyurethane or polyacrylate. It is coated onto the insulated central conductor (1) by passing it through a solution of the lacquer (Figure 2) and cured by heating. A lacquer layer as thin as 5 to 30 mu may be formed. The insulating layer (2) may be a foam and be of PVC, polyethylene, polypropylene or PTFE. Optionally a layer of Sn, Ni or Pb may be provided over the lacquer layer. A protective coating (4) of polyethylene, polyurethane, PVC or a fluoro-polymer optionally with flame retardants, may be provided. The cables can be manufactured much more rapidly than the known cables which comprise a stranded outer conductor or an outer conductor of metal foil. <IMAGE>
