In a thermal drying process for solid particulate materials (esp. wood particles), the wet material is mixed with a stream of hog gas and pre-dried in a first stage, and is then dried to the final moisture content by mechanical stirring and teeming in a second stage, after which the solids are sepd. from the gas and water vapour. Some of the gas and water vapour is sepd. from the solids after the first stage. Also claimed is an appts. embodying the process principles.
