Projections at the bottom of e.g. ladders can be plugged into the rectangular openings at the top of the ladder to which it is to be connected. The front- and rear-faces of the projections are curved. The inner curve of the projection lies against a roller which is mounted inside the opening of the mating ladder so that, when the ladder is placed against a tree the top ladder can move in the direction of the arrow.
