The bridle has the bit rod made with a flexible core (16) and with a leather cover (20) round it, closed along a cover closure line (48). The leather cover may be closed by a butt joint (44a, 44b), using a thread (50), e.g. saddler's thread. The flexible core may have a line capable of being pulled (22). The core may be made of rubber or of an elastomer plastics. Its cross-section may be circular. The core may consist of a pack (18) of strips of material running along the bit, e.g. strips of leather. The bridle may have at least one snaffle ring in a ring eye fitting formed on the end of the core or of the cover.
