Preparation of 2,5-dihydrofuran of formula (I) by the catalytic rearrangement of 3,4-epoxy-1-butenes of formula (II) in the presence of a Lewis acid or elemental iodine and in the presence or absence of solvents at 60-200 degrees C. The rearrangement is in the presence of a phosphazine halide and/or a phosphazine halide. R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6 = H or 1-4C alkyl.
