Soft elastic moulded articles are made by preparing a mixt. of 75 - 98 vol.% cork granules and 25 - 2 vol.% polyurethane adhesive; charging the mixt. into a mould; scraping off the projecting parts of the mixt; pressing the mixt.; and allowing the pressed mass to harden for 1.5 - 3.5 hrs. at room temp. Also claimed is the appts. used. Pref. a mixt. of 95 vol.% cork granules and 5 vol.% polyurethane adhesive is used. An accelerator may be incorporated into the mixt. before moulding to reduce the hardening time. The compsn. is introduced into a cylindrical mould cavity in a mould which may be made of metal, wood or plastics and pressing of the mixt. is accomplished by introducing a plunger into the mould cavity on top of the mixt. The depth of the plunger dictates the degree of compression of the mixt. several moulds may be placed on top of each other in a stack during the standing time for hardening the compsn.
