The present application concerns a method and apparatus for accessing data by handling a name in order to obtain the respective terminal name which enables a computer to access the data addressed by said name. First it is checked whether said name is a terminal name or not. If said name is a terminal name, it will directly be used to access said data. In the case that said name is not a terminal name the algebra of natural transformation is applied on an environment (w) to get a terminal functor. Then said terminal functor is applied on said name to get a terminal name which might then be used by a computer to access said date. The present method and apparatus is of particular interest in the field of parallel processing and numerical intensive computing, where several of the above steps can be carried out in parallel taking several names as input to obtain the respective terminal names. <MATH> |
