The clock mechanism (2) is mounted inside a clock case (1) on top of a pillar. The pillar consists of a conical base (7) and eighty interlocked segments (6). A rod passes through a circular hole (5) through the case (1), segments (6) and base (7). Nuts (3, 8) are attached to threads at each end of the rod, to hold the pillar together. The segments (6), which have a thin rectangular cross-section, can be rotated through an angle limited by the links to the neighbouring segments. The user can slacken off the base nut and twist the pillar to form various helical shapes for decorative effect. When the required effect has been achieved, the pillar is clamped by re-tightening the base nut (8). |
