There is disclosed a method for forming silver halide grains and a method for processing a silver halide photographic material using the same. The method for forming silver halide grains comprises using at least one iodide-ion-releasing compound represented by the following formula (I) or (II): I-L-So3-M+formula (I) wherein L represents a divalent organic group and M+ represents a hydrogen ion or a monovalent cation, <IMAGE> formula (II) wherein L represents a divalent organic group, R1 and R2, which are the same or different, each represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aralkyl group, or an aryl group, which groups may be substituted, and R1 and R2 may bond together to form a ring.
