<p>The driven power tool has a first tool member received concentrically within a surrounding, second tool member and axially moveable in it. It also has a drive device to impart relative rotational movement of the first and second tool members. Ther first tool member is an assembly of a quick disconnect key having a wrenching surface with a distal, annular groove and a key holder having a central recess which receives the key and which has a mating wrenching surface to rotationally index to the key. The key holder also has a detent recess transversely intersecting the central recess in which is received at least one detent ball which seats in the annular groove of the key to retain the key in the holder. It also has a sleeve slidably received about the key holder and moveable between a detent position in which it overlies the detent to recess retain the ball seated in the annular groove and a release position in which it is sufficiently withdrawn from the detent recess to permit the ball to move out of the annular groove of the key. A spring device is carried on the holder and engaging the sleeve to urge the sleeve into the detent position. The second detent device comprises a receptacle slidably carried within the second tool member and having a second central recess that receives an end of the first tool member. The second detent device is carried by the receptacle to secure the first tool member against axial movement relative to the receptacle. There is a release device carried on the second tool member and adjacent the second detent device to release the first tool member and permit sufficient axial movement thereof to project the key beyond the end of the second tool member and accessible to permit movement of the sleeve and release of the key.</p> |
