A loose jacket (1) for a book or periodical consists of two folders (3,4), each of which has a partially formed opening (6,7) for the cover of the book. The folders are attached (8) to the jacket spine (2), such that pref. a single prod. is formed. Pref. the jacket is made of on or more of leather; plastics opt. in the form of sheets made of e.g. polyethylene@, polypropylene@, other polyolefin, etc.; rubber; cardboard; fabric; linen-like material; cotton; silk; denim; etc.
