PURPOSE:To suppress an air entrainment caused in high-speed coating and to perform coating under stabilized conditions by interrupting the air entrained by a substrate with an air interrupting material formed at the end of an air interrupter on the upstream side of a coater head and applying a falling curtain film on the continuously traveling substrate under specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:An air interrupter 8 for interrupting the air entrained by a substrate 5 is formed on the upstream side of a coater head 1, and an air interrupting member 9 in contact with the substrate 5 in the width direction of the substrate 5 is set at the end of the interrupter 8 close to the head 1. The distance (a) between a coating line wherein a falling curtain film 4 is transferred on the substrate 5 and a contact line close to the coating line in the part where the interrupting member 9 is brought into contact with the substrate 5 is controlled to 3-80mm. A vertical falling curtain film flowing out of a lip 3 is brought into contact with the continuously traveling substrate 5 and applied on the substrate 5.
