The IC-engine has a cylinder block (12) and cylinder head (16) enclosing pistons (14) connected to a crankshaft (21). A crankcase base (30) has an oil sump (32) feeding a pump having a pipe (26) which extends into the sump. It has ducts (38) which return the oil to the sump. The sump has a cover (34) which maintains the oil around the pipe when the engine is subjected to a lateral acceleration.
