For mine countermeasures using a remotely controlled submersible (20), the invention proposes that transponders (2 to 4) are placed on the seabed on each side of the channel to be cleared and their positions determined relative to a towed sonar (6) and the vessel (5) towing the sonar. At the same time, the position of the mine (1) is calculated in a coordinate system based on the transponders. These data are transmitted by the sonar vessel (5) to the guiding platform (10) for the submersible (20), and the submersible is guided by means of these transponder-based data to the mine (1) and destroys it.
