Loose connecting rod drive mechanism, particularly for IC engines

The device converts axial motion to radial motion or vice versa. Two cogs (3,4) that are eccentrically and rigidly mounted on two cranked camshafts (1,2) drive the two cogs (5,6) in the same direction of rotation. The cogs are of the same radius as the radius of the cranked section of camshaft. This radius is equal to a quarter of the stroke of the engine's pistons (not shown). Thus, the cogs rotate about a radius equal to one half of the stroke. In the process, the central connecting rod (8), that is located in the central bearing (7), also rotates as it is rigidly attached to the axes of the two eccentric cogs. As the cranked camshafts rotate, they produce an axial movement of the connecting rods (9,10) that drives the engine's pistons up and down.
