Common transmission of data file and text information and/or image information

The method allows transmission of image information and/or character information and file information from one communication terminal (KES) via a communication network to another terminal (KEE) using the facsimile transmission protocol such as ITU-T T4 and ITU-T T30. The data files to be transmitted are divided into data blocks in accordance with the protocol. Each data block is characterised a file data information according to the facsimile control field. The digital image information and/or character information to be transmitted are also divided into data blocks in accordance with the protocol. Each data block is characterised as facsimile encoded and/or text encoded data blocks. The data blocks are alternately transmitted using the facsimile transmission protocol to the receiving terminal (KEE) from the transmitting terminal (KES) and are stored there. The stored file data blocks are decoded and the data contained in them is stored in memory (MEMO). The stored facsimile encoded and/or text encoded blocks are decoded and the contained image and/or text information is stored in memory (MEMO) or output using a reproduction device (PRNT).
