The mattress frame can adjust in height in the centre part (7) of the inserted frame and can twist through 90 deg. round a vertical axis. In this twisted position the rear part rises vertically upwards as against the shank or shin area (9) which now swings vertically downwards clear of the bed frame. The mattress frame is mounted on vertical height-adjustable spindles (19) guided in spindle nuts mounted on the turntable (20). The nuts are driven round by a toothed driving belt (18) passed round all the nuts as well as the spindle motor drive wheel. Spring loaded eccentric rollers on the top of the turntable ensure this is carried without play of any kind, and the mattress frame joints (19) comprise joint rings fitted to the mattress stringer endfaces via an interposed sliding ring and with both joint rings fitted to a collared core screwed into the similarly collared bearing disc.
