High temp. material contains sintered magnesia (MgO) particles in integrated configuration and a mineral phase of magnesium orthotitanate (Mg2TiO4) lying between the magnesia particles. Also claimed is a process (I) for mfg. a high temp. material with a mineral phase of Mg2TiO4 lying between sintered MgO particles in integrated configuration, the process being novel in that coarse MgO particles are uniformly mixed with fine titania (TiO2) particles and the mixt. fired. Further claimed is a process (II) for mfg. the above material, novel in that a mixt. of MgO and TiO2 is fired to form a primary sintered mass, which is pulverised to form fine particles, which are added to coarse MgO particles and the coarse to average size MgO particles, and the mixt. is heated to carry out secondary sintering to form the high temp. material. Also claimed is a further process (III) for mfg. a high temp. material with a mineral phase of Mg2TiO4 which lies between sintered MgO particles in integrated configuration, novel in that coarse MgO particles are uniformly mixed with fine Mg2TiO4 particles and the mixt. is sintered. |
