The present invention relates to novel oligonucleotides of formula I having phosphorodithioate internucleotide linkages which may be used for the treatment of diseases caused by viruses. wherein R is H or a blocking group; A is H, OH, halogen, SH, NH2 or azide; B is a nucleoside or deoxynucleoside base; and n is an integer from zero to thirty.
