<p>A method and apparatus for rotary thermoforming a plastic component. A molten polymer sheet (X) is extruded onto a rotating drum (14) which defines a plurality of mold cavities (16) therein. Each mold cavity has a bottom wall and side walls shaped to correspond to the component to be formed. A book mold (18) is attached adjacent each mold cavity (16) and carried by the drum (14) for movement between an open position for receiving the molten polymer sheet (X) and a closed position for thermoforming the molten polymer sheet (X). Air is forced into the mold cavity to urge the molten polymer sheet (X) against the bottom wall and the side walls of the mold cavity for conforming of molten polymer sheet (X) thereto. The forced air is vented from the mold cavity to atmosphere.</p> |
