The rear view mirror has a mirror foot (1), supporting a relatively adjustable mirror housing (2), which has a recess (18) for an automatic garage door control (16), used for opening the garage door upon approach of the vehicle, without requiring use of a hand-held remote-control transmitter. The recess may be provided by an integral part of the mirror housing, or be releasably attached to the mirror housing and is transparent to the signal provided by the garage door control, which is pref. programmable. Pref. the garage door control includes a transmitter (17) and a receiver (27) coupled to a microcomputer (30) via a decoder (28).
