The prior art already includes a method and device for the manufacture of a metal can with a rotationally symmetrical body of specified maximum diameter and a neck section with a diameter smaller than that of the body, plus a film of workable material carrying a decorative design. In this prior art method, the body of the can is first cold-worked and cleaned. In a subsequent operation, the neck section, together with the decorative film applied to it, is narrowed. The invention calls for this method to be modified by applying the decorative design first to a separate sheet of workable material which is then attached to the body of the can by an adhesive bond before the neck section together with the workable film is narrowed.
