The prosthesis has a fluid reservoir channel (10) in the joint socket (2) at the sliding surface (6) towards the ball (4) of the joint. When the prosthesis is assembled, a sliding gap (12) between the ball (4) and socket (2) gives a fluid connection to the reservoir, which is outside the main load-bearing zone (11). The materials for the sliding surfaces are paired with each other as metal alloy-metal alloy, metal alloy-polyethylene, ceramic-polyethylene or ceramic-ceramic. The anchoring shell (7) is of titanium with a polyethylene insert (8).
