Floppy disk quality testing method

The method identifies faulty sites of an information carrying layer of a floppy disk. Signals are stored on the information carrying layer using a read/write head (4) and are subsequently read. The read signal is compared with a reference signal. A deviation between the two signals determines a faulty site on the information carrying layer. The signals are only stored in one region (2) of the unformatted disk to be tested and are subsequently read, after which a formatting process forms the control track or track. The entire disk remains unformatted.
