The metal cutting tool comprises one or more cutting insert seats (1) to accommodate and support cutter inserts (3) of various shapes. Each insert seat has a base support surface (10) on which the insert is mounted and two or more side support surfaces (11,12,16), at right angles to each other, against which side faces of the insert bear. One of the side surfaces has two or more supported surfaces arranged and located at differing heights or distances from the seat base to provide selectively support for either generally square or alternately hexagonal shaped cutter inserts. The cutter inserts, secured to the tool by a locking screw (9), may be indexed to provide multiple selective cutting faces suitable for a variety of cutting operations. |
